Stock market research by Jesper Johnsson

Know what to buy, where to get in and where to get out. Before the open.

A short brief every weekday morning on US stocks, indices and crypto. It names the few setups worth taking, with the price to enter, the price that proves it wrong, and how much to risk. For investors there is long-form valuation research on companies large and small, worked from the annual report.

How the daily brief is made

The method looks at where volume actually traded, because the price large buyers paid is the price they defend. Most mornings that rules out most charts.

06:15 CET

Scan

The terminal reads more than 100 stocks, indices and crypto pairs. For each one it finds the average price large buyers paid and how close price is to it.

Before the open

Choose

The brief keeps the few charts worth taking and says why in one plain sentence. Then it gives the entry, the stop and the size.

Afterwards

Record

Every call is published before the position is taken. It stays on the record whether it worked or not.

Each figure is one call measured on its own. They are not added together, because returns on positions of different sizes do not sum to a portfolio return. Your position size is your own decision.

Open calls are left out of every figure until they close. The five best calls account for roughly half of the total gain. Past results do not predict future ones.

Jesper Johnsson

Written by one person, every morning

I'm Jesper Johnsson. I started trading in 2000, did very well on the way down, then stayed short into 2003 and lost the account. What rebuilt it was a trader in Copenhagen who made me read charts with the price taken out, showing only where volume had traded. That question still runs everything on this site.

Today I trade the four-hour chart, build the terminal on TradingView, and teach economics and the stock market at upper secondary level in Sweden. Explaining a market to a room of seventeen-year-olds every week is good training for writing a brief.
